What is a SKU?

A SKU (stock keeping unit) is your own code for one sellable variant: a red T-shirt in size M has a different SKU from the same shirt in size L. Barcodes come from GS1; SKUs are yours to choose.

What makes a good SKU code?

Short, unique and readable: a brand or category part, a product part, then each option, like NOR-CTS-M-BLA. Use only letters, numbers and one separator, and never start with a zero, because spreadsheets drop it.

Should my SKU match the marketplace's SKU?

Accepted Answer

Use the same seller SKU everywhere you can. Each marketplace also gives the product its own ID (an ASIN on Amazon), and your SKU is what ties those IDs back to one item in your stock.

Can two variants share a SKU?

No. If two codes would come out the same, this tool adds a number to the second, so every variant can be counted and sold on its own.
